Introduction

National Taiwan University (NTU) College of Medicine established the NTU Center of Genomic Medicine (NTUCGM) in 2002, with the aim to integrate the research resources within the campus of NTU, including NTU College of Medicine, College of Public Health, National Taiwan University Hospital and other related colleges in NTU to establish the state-of-the-art genomics core facilities. The primary mission is to provide cutting edge core services to support functional genomic studies and promote the cross disciplinary translational research in NTU as well as the academia of Taiwan.

Since April 2003, the NTUCGM has established a series of core facilities and invited colleagues to participate in genomic translational research. The NTUCGM consists of nine core laboratories devoted to Proteomics, Microbial Genomics, NGS and Microarray, Tissue Bank, Transgenic Mouse Research, Genetic Epidemiology, Bioinformatics/Biostatistics, Metabolomics and Stem Cells.

In addition, a Teaching Resource Center integrates research resources and coordinates related training programs. Currently, there are more than 30 faculty members and post-doctoral research fellows joining the center, providing high quality core services for all researchers in NTU. The staff working in the NTUCGM is dedicated to provide high quality core services to support the mission-oriented research on translational medicine, particularly emphasized on endemic diseases in East Asia and Taiwan. Worthy of note is that in 2012, NTUCGM established the collaboration with MD Anderson Cancer Center, through the International Research-intensive Center of Excellence (I-RiCE) Program granted by the National Science Council. We expected this I-RiCE program will pave the way for our faculty members and researchers to strengthen the cooperative relations and network with research institutes world-wide known.

In addition to the innovative idea, the efficient and high quality technological supports and state-of-the-art facilities are essential for carrying out genomic research aimed at making breakthrough discoveries. The NTUCGM aims to be one of the top research centers, not only in Taiwan but also in the entire Asia-Pacific region.

This brochure introducing the organization and the scope of NTUCGM provides an overview of Research Center activities. Our goal is to facilitate the advances in genomic medicine by coordinating facilities for genomic research in NTU, and promote the translational research to reach the scientific excellence.
